Mysterious project

Remember about the suspense on my last post ? Yes, all the lack of posting was because I was working vigorously on a gift for my sis that is coming up this Friday. It was all of a sudden, that I realized I had not knitted her anything for a long time. I halted everything and thought that a scarf would be appropriate as she is going for a vacation to Europe next month. I only had a few days to buy the yarn and decide on a pattern for the scarf. I wanted to mail it to US asap so that it would arrive by her Bday .
Believe or not, this is my first scarf project after so many years of knitting. The night I bought the yarn ( Line 38 Kaschmerino, blend of wool/ cashmere and acrylic, an Italian yarn) I went through my magazines and I couldn't find any scarf pattern. Maybe one or two in the magazines, but none anything I had in mind. I went to sleep and hoping that the next day I would be able to browse more on my magazines. Surprising, the next morning I woke up with a design! Don't laugh at me, I used to have my computer programs debugged in my dreams before. That's on the old days.
I quickly sketched it on piece of paper. Are you curious? I won't be showing you a nice drawing ( although I wished I had done it nicely :) ), instead it's was just done in a paper I found at my bedside. Just thought it would be fun to share it!
Don't ask me about the numbers, my memory is short and I even do the short math in paper.:D

This is my 7th attempt to paste the photo below. I don't know what is the problem, maybe it's this new version on Picasa2. The picture stays for a while and disappears by itself. Very strange! Anyway, I've tried all the possible ways, so I'm sorry if you just see an empty frame.

My first attempt was not successful, it was too narrow. I tried more sts, the width was then fine. Something was not right with the pattern, this time were the cables (having in mind that cables would hold the roses). Apparently, it looked so busy and I redid the pattern without the cables and I was happy with it.

My yarn was a rose pink, that linked me to roses and led me to Nicky Epstein's book. I tried the roses on the cover of "knitting over the edge", the one in the capelet. Didn't work well and I decided to try her newest rose design featured in the latest Vogue knitting. Opted for one rose instead.

And I was able to create this scarf for my sis!

Yes, my sis have already received it ( I mailed it express service) and I am so happy that I was able to give her a surprise. Of course, she loves my scarf and so do I. Somehow, we have a tendency to like similar things. That's why we are SISTERS!

I love that yarn too, it's so soft. And the roses are perfect in that color. Lucky, lucky sister!

That's such a pretty scarf. I like the ruffle and the flower and the 3 cabley(?) lines - together it looks vintage. I want to have design dreams too :)

It is a lovely design ... you are talented. Maybe you should try to submit it to Knitty or Magknits ... what do you think? ;)
