Hidden FO

Do you still remember my Rubellite shrug? I've tried to forget about it and hid it together with some other UFO's. I had it almost done right after Summer, with the exception of the crochet border of one sleeve. My first attempt turned out into a huge ruffled border, then I tried picking up less sts on the other one and it didn't look good. I decided that the first attempt, even big, was still a better choice. At that point, I was a bit tired of the yarn and the crochet border. It takes long time even to do one sleeve and with my "snail speed in crocheting" I decided that a break would be the best for the moment. Who likes to unravel things? Not me! It just happened that I started to knit other projects and did not feel like to return to the shrug. However, on the back of my mind this shrug was always haunting me, even though I put out of my sight.

So I took it out and redid the border and now I have it as an FO!
I just don't know when is that I'll have the courage to wear it! :D
My boys reactions to the shrug were:

Mom, you want me to take a picture of you wearing THIS??
It looks "nice", just the sleeves look DIFFERENT!!

Such encouragement for the photo section, LOL . I decided that since is an FO I should still show it. It does look better on the picture than in reality! I put a pin maybe because the thing was so small, and I am trying to see if I can cover more! :D

Here is the back, sorry for the messy hair. I always do the photos at night just before bedtime.
I think it will look better if it was a 3/4 length sleeve. They look longer as the yarn has Viscose and the weight of the border pulls it down even more. Well at least it's done, out of my mind!

I am now working on this new project that I named "Lapis Lazuli ( blue stone with some white patches) Cardigan". Yes, it's wool! It's so comfy to knit with wool , it's light and I can use Japanese needle #6. The yarn is Schachenmayr - Extra 100% wool with twists of dark and light blue that I bought in San Diego.

So far is progressing really fast, it's a very easy pattern , only one more sleeve and the border to go. I need to go to a LYS to find a navy blue for the border, dangerous place to stop by. I may walk out with more than the yarn I need to complete this cardigan!! I am still undecided with the pattern for the border. I am following this pattern from Amu that I showed on my last post

After many runs to the mirror to check the length of my sleeves, I chose to knit mine longer. Maybe the designer knows bettter and I also like it short 3/4 lenght but the reason I made mine cover my whole arm is that I will be wearing it in a cool weather and it will not be so practical to have part of my arms freezing!
As for the border, I can't make my mind yet of how to knit it. With two colors as in the picture or with a solid navy blue. Any suggestions?

Great job finishing your shrug. I'm quite reluctant to rip too and would rather just finish so I can do something else. :)
A contrasting band would be very nice for your blue sweater.

I do like the shrug, I think because of the shine of the viscose, makes it look pretty elegant.

I agree with Joy, contrasting band would make the sweater stand out more.

I like the sleeves but can understand the weight pulling them down (like that yellow cabled cardi I made a couple of months ago--to the frog pond someday). The color is glorious!

Don't worry about covering up, your shrug is very pretty, it's like a one skein wonder with sleeves. Wear it wtih pride.

I see nothing wrong with the shrug ... and the crocheted border is beautiful!
All these japanese patterns you are showing here ... so tempting! But I know they are too elegant in style for me!

I like your shrug and I prefer it in long sleeves as it'll more feminine to wear.

Shrugs are really sleeves, yours is very feminine, so wear it. But if you really feel uncomfortable, just rip the edging and it will still look good. I like the cardigan you are knitting.

Hi Mimi, your shrug is so pretty. Make me feel like making one too. I saw one from a japanese mag that's very similar to yours, but it is crocheted. I agree with joy and mona, definitely will go with the contrasting band.
