Thank you all for the good travel wishes you sent to me! :) Here are some photos from my first day, very early in the morning and right after I dropped the kids at school. Enjoyed some nice breakfast in La Jolla downtown with my sister. Love pancakes with strawberries! Right next door there was a needlepoint shop with cute canvas. The sea view in this city is just breathtaking. The surrounding is so peaceful and beautiful. I can see this scenery on my daily driving to pick up my boys.
I also stopped by Knitting in La Jolla, a small yarn store but with a good range of yarns. Bought couple Lorna's Lace and need to go back to get a shawl pattern book. There was another very small shop nearby, Helga's Yarn, but the store was closed as it was still early and I didn't see much yarn inside to make the return worth it. Yes, that's me on the reflection of the store's glass door.
On the following day, I went to "Common Threads", in Encinitas . This is a larger store with a good selection of yarn, accessories and books. Though I had hard time to go through their yarn as they are displayed by shades instead of types. Just got some books as time was short. My problem for shopping is not having enough time. The pick up time for the boys is 2:30 PM and 11:00 AM on Fridays. Still need to go back to the area as there are two more yarn shops in this neighborhood.
This past weekend, I , my boys and Sis' family went to Las Vegas and we shopped a lot. I should say until I dropped! :) I have to say that Las Vegas is a great place for shopping, endless stores and mostly open until midnight. Funny as it may sound but I didn't gamble. No, I am not into gambling at all! However, I am addicted to yarn. My sister was so surprised that I found a yarn store in the area. Checked through goggle and found "Gail Knits". My brother-in-law was so nice to include this stop for me! We arrived there just an hour before the store closing time. The store is not far away from the big hotels area but it's a slow driving due to the traffic. Bought some Noro yarn to make a sweater . It's hard to resist the vivid colors in Noro.
I think I will be visiting more yarn shops in LA as my sister will be on vacation after tomorrow. Will be nice to have her as company. Though she doesn't knit, the girls in my family like making crafts. Besides, I have this insecurity of driving in southern CA. Drivers here just speed up so much. And here I am with unknown roads and unfamiliar cars. Well, I am not so bad behind the wheels. Thinking that I had 4 driving licenses ( 3 are still valid) from 4 countries and I can even drive on different sides of the wheel. But you know for yarn hunting, I would never give up! ;)
